Presentation synopsis: Acute respiratory illnesses are the major reason for paediatric admission to hospital especially during the forthcoming winter months. A great deal of information can be gained from simple observation. The diagnosis and acute treatment of asthma, bronchiolitis, croup and pneumonia will be discussed.

Bio: Dr Tim McDonald arrived in Canberra as advanced trainee registrar in October 1988, after 9 years at POWCH with main interest in further establishing tertiary level neonatology in Canberra. Respiratory career stemmed from giving asthma lectures to GPs. Respiratory & Sleep Fellow Monash Medical Centre 2001 – 2003. Tim is currently General Respiratory and Sleep Paediatrician at Centenary Hospital Canberra and Equinox Specialist Centre, Acting Clinical Director Paediatrics and Director Prevocational Education and Training
