About the course

Presented by Julie Hughes Presentation Synopsis: A presentation on the paramedic led High Acuity Response Team within the QAS. Outline of training, clinical guidelines and procedures, including RSI, prehospital ultrasound, finger thorocostomy, blood administration and the role clinical governance and case review.

Bio: Julie is a Critical Care Paramedic currently working in Brisbane’s High Acuity Response Unit. She joined the QAS in 2002 after a 10 year career as a staff/senior radiographer at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. Stationed in the Brisbane Metropolitan area she completed her Diploma in Prehospital Care and won the Outstanding Student of the Year 2004. She transferred to rural / single officer stations in 2006 before returning to Brisbane to complete the Intensive Care Paramedic program and was awarded 2008’s Intensive Care Paramedic Practice Award for the highest grade point average. She has since worked on the ICP pod, as a flight paramedic for Rescue 500 and as a Clinical Support Officer. In late 2013 she was appointed to the Brisbane High Acuity Response Unit. Julie has a special interest in prehospital ultrasound.
