Presentation 1: What are the burning issues?

Presented by Siobhan Connolly

Synopsis: Burn patients present a management challenge from initial injury onwards. How do we recognise, stabilise and manage the burn patient?

Bio: Siobhan has been working as the Burn Prevention/Education Manager of the ACI Statewide Burn Injury Service since November 2005. Before this time she nursed in the Burn Unit at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead for 9 years. She is Chair of the ANZBA Burn Prevention Committee and the current ANZBA Treasurer. She also teaches burn management in NSW, across Australia and internationally and has led the development of numerous resources for burn management and prevention.


Presentation 2: Grenfell Tower – a command and control perspective.

Presented by Laurence Ioannou

Synopsis: As one of the first units on scene and the designated Operational Commander for the devastating fire at Grenfell Tower in June 2017, Laurence will be providing a unique first hand account of the incident. Walking through a timeline of the events as they unfolded, the presentation will discuss difficulties in complex scene management, the practical application of Major Incident processes, and the issues faced during recovery after the incident.

Bio: Laurence Ioannou joined NSW Ambulance in 2008. Currently working as an Inspector in the Sydney North Zone, Laurence has recently returned from a 2 year position at London Ambulance Service, working as an Incident Response Officer.
