We are advising all members today of a significant and important opportunity to advance the profession of paramedicine through an enhanced representative model.
The Australian & New Zealand College of Paramedicine (ANZCP) and Paramedics Australasia (PA) have held discussions over the past few months and we now seek your feedback and support for a proposal to bring the two representative organisations together to form a single professional association for all paramedics throughout Australia and New Zealand. These discussions have taken place in an environment of good faith and mutual cooperation hence our presentation of this proposal as one voice.
It is proposed that ANZCP and PA merge through the establishment of a new entity, provisionally called the Australasian College of Paramedicine (ACP).
The landmark event last year where paramedics became recognised professionally through registration under the National Law was the catalyst for these discussions. Our two organisations recognised that both bodies have very much aligning objectives with the overall goal of advancing the profession under a guiding principle of patient safety. Whilst both organisations are independently strong and sustainable, we believe that one collective voice would most readily achieve this goal and be the most productive structure to represent paramedicine in the future.
We also feel confident that a single professional association would enhance the vast array of member services and benefits currently offered by each organisation and ensure paramedics are comprehensively and inclusively supported in their professional roles.
This proposal can only progress with the support of you, our members. Before finalising any formal proposal and asking you to vote on whether to join together to form one strong entity, we would like to hear your questions, comments and feedback on the proposal. Please let us know if you have any concerns so that we can address them and share your thoughts on how a new combined entity could best advance paramedicine and support you in your future practice.
We have implemented a dedicated email address for you to ask questions, share your ideas or provide feedback. You can email firstname.lastname@example.org or call the College General Manager, John Bruning, on 0419 419 085 to provide feedback.
We look forward to hearing your thoughts and will follow-up with ongoing correspondence describing the next important steps for this exciting opportunity after receiving your initial feedback.
