Update 22 October 2014

The Australian Health Workforce Ministerial Council (the Council) met and considered the establishment of paramedics as a profession in the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme for health practitioners on Friday 10th October 2014.

The Council were supportive of protection of the paramedic title and discussed options for regulation. The Council noted that further work is required and has asked WA to complete this in early 2015 for consideration by the Council.

ANZCP continues to support the establishment of paramedics under the National Scheme and is encouraged that, while the Council did not agree to this during this meeting, they continue to investigate how registration would work for, and benefit, the paramedic profession.
