The College has had a busy couple of months communicating with all state and territory Ministers in regards to National Registration. The College has reiterated our position that National Registration is a must for the profession, and on the whole, the response from Ministers has been supportive of National Registration.
As many of you would know, NSW has been said to be unsupportive of National Registration, and we did meet with the NSW Minister’s Chief of Staff and discuss the impediments to NSW moving to a position of support. The College put forward a strong position for National Registration and gained a greater insight into the concerns NSW has and where the issues lay. The College will continue our advocacy work with the NSW Minister and key staff.
Protection of Paramedic Title (NSW)
The College attended a second consultation meeting between NSW Health and key stakeholders in relation to the NSW Government’s Protection of Paramedic Title legislation. This was a productive meeting and it looks like the major concerns raised by stakeholders, especially by private providers, was heard and all left the meeting comfortable with the likely regulations that sit behind the legislation.
We await the finalised regulations, but the outcome looks to be a positive step to ensuring patient safety.
